Water Efficiency

Coastal is fully committed to bringing cost-effective, water-saving measures to home and business owners\renters on the Cape & Islands. You may be quite surprised at how you can save a great deal of water (and energy) by instituting some very simple water-saving measures.

Here is a list of some of the more basic water-saving measures that Coastal can help you with:

1. Installation of Low-Flow Fixtures – of all the luxuries we enjoy, free-flowing hot water is one of them. Take, for example, a long, hot shower (from time to time). We can continue to enjoy our hot showers without having a large impact on the planet and local water systems, and here's how:

Install low-flow showerheads

The average American showers for 10 minutes each day. At an average water flow rate of about 2.5 gallons per minute, we can have a pretty big impact on our water systems (and energy systems as well). By installing a showerhead with a flow rate of 1.5 gallons per minute, we can all save money and reduce our impact with a very minimal financial investment.

Install low-flow faucet aerators

Running water for hand and dishwashing, as well as a variety of other tasks, is a part of our everyday lives, but doing these tasks efficiently can easily become a part of our everyday lives as well. For a few dollars, you can install low-flow faucet aerators that are sure to save money and valuable water resources without any changes in our behavior.

Turn down the temperature setting on your water heater (without compromising comfort\quality, or the ability to effectively wash dirty dishes).
